Teyata is a Belgian Guitar Duo with Jan Sanen & An Volders.
Two guitarists An Volders and Jan Sanen meet during their studies at the Conservatory of Antwerp, Belgium. Their first appearance with Teyatá by Stephen Wingfield in 2005 during the Guitar Symposium in Iserlohn (D) is the beginning of their musical journey. Both graduate with honors from the Conservatory of Antwerp with Roland Broux. An Volders specializes subsequently with Carlo Marchioni in Maastricht (NL) where she also completed her postgraduate with excellent remarks. Since 2010 Jan is a guitar assistant to his former professor Roland Broux at the Royal Conservatory and teaches guitar and chamber music.
In 2013 their first album ‘Versa’ was recorded. Versa carries the blueprints of Teyata’s main idea, which is to create new sounds and compositions for two classical guitarists with the freedom for improvisation. Their two different characters and guitars bring about a magical mix of sounds and emotions. The musical ideas they encounter in the visual arts, photography, written word, in their environment and during their travels eventually come together in expressive and illustrative works. With Versa An and Jan play concerts in Germany, Netherlands, France and Belgium. They are invited to play live on Klara, the Belgian Radio channel and live on NPO Radio 4 at the Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam. In 2015 Teyata receives the Laureate price at the Culture Foundation of Limburg (B).
The second album 'Leipzig' (release october 2017) is inspired by traveling between places on your own. Feeling at home elsewhere. Listening to foreign sounds and words without the need to understand them. All music on this album is written by An Volders. The Leipzig compositions are published in Belgium.
